Family and social interests

Family:

Here are some recent (well relatively recent) photos of Ian, Olga (Ian's beloved wife), Isabella, Sophia and Mia (Ian's beautiful daughters) and Gogga / Xoxa (Ian's psychopathic snow cat).

Social Interests:

Sports & Hobbies:

Ian enjoys tennis, volleyball, ice-skating, hiking, running, cricket, chess and shogi (Japanese chess).
If you would like to read a rather odd article by Ian (under the pseudonym Jan van Seist) on renaissance chess variants in the Low Countries, click here

History:

Ian has published a number of short articles on mediaeval and renaissance history under the psuedonym Jan van Seist.  If you enjoy scurrilous satire and prefer smutty gossip to staid seriousness, feel free to click here and have a browse.

Scottish dance and culture:

Since coming to Alaska, Ian has been rediscovering the Scots-Canadian side of his heritage.  He won the tall-story prize at the Eagle River Highland Games in 2004 and shared the title in 2005.  If you would like more information on hooting, skirling and haggis hurling in the land of the midnight sun (or on how to avoid the people who hoot, skirl or hurl haggis), try the following links.

Languages:

Dutch (good), Afrikaans (fair), Russian (poor but improving. Russian 201 student) & Hebrew (beginner).
